Bio

Brian Makowski returns to the Oilers' coaching staff and will be entering his ninth year with the program in 2023-24.

The 2023 season was a historic one for the University of Findlay baseball team. The Oilers finished the season as the third team standing in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament, falling in the consolation final after winning three consecutive elimination games. Their record of 32-22 is the best in the NCAA era of the program and had the Oilers on the verge of making the program's first NCAA Regional appearance. Their 32 wins established a new program record for season wins, breaking the 2008 record of 28 wins. The Oiler's pitching staff recorded 374 strikeouts with an average ERA of 5.35.

Makowski coached two of their pitchers to all-Great Midwest honors in the 2022 season. He led the Oilers to 416 strikeouts during the season with an average ERA of 6.78.

The 2018 season saw a pair of Oilers' pitchers earn first team all-league honors. That duo included Colin Gossard and Josh Robinson, who set both the league and school record for saves in a season with 11.

Pitching has been a strength for Findlay since the arrival of Coach Makowski. The season prior to his arrival, 2013, the Oilers ranked 11th in the GLIAC in ERA. Each year since then, Coach Makowski's pitching staff has moved up in that ranking, including being fourth in the league in 2016 and third in 2017.

He has coached Oilers pitchers to two all-G-MAC awards, six all-GLIAC awards, two of which were first team winners, four GLIAC pitcher of the week awards, one all-region award, and one all-American award. In 2016, three Oilers' pitchers earned the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Pitcher of the Week honors. No other school in the nation had more than one pitcher earn the award that season.
