Box Score

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay football team battled with Wayne State but fell by a score of 37-21 on Saturday, October 8. With the loss, the Oilers' record falls to 2-4 on the year with all of the games being Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contests. Wayne State improves to 5-1 on the year.

Defense was the key early as both teams struggled to get any offense going in the first quarter. Wayne State ended the draught with a touchdown run as the clock hit zero to end the first frame. Five minutes later the Warriors scored again to take a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

In that first quarter, junior Rhys Gervais surpassed Bo Hurley, who threw for 4,835 yards from 1994-1997, to become the all-time leading passer in Findlay history.

Findlay came back with 14 unanswered points of their own with a pair of touchdowns from Rhys Gervais to Jason Moore, one of which covered 43 yards. Moore finished the game with three touchdown catches which ties five other players for the most catches in a game.

Wayne State's offense then caught fire as they pushed their lead to 27-14 before Moore made another touchdown catch to make the score 27-21. That is as close as the Oilers would get as the Warriors used a pair of Findlay turnovers to lead to two more scores to seal the game at 37-21.

Moore was the standout on offense as he made four catches for 130 yards that included three touchdowns. His cohort Dylan Blunk also had a career day as he made 15 catches for 118 yards. His 15 catches tie Lloyd Henry's performance against Walsh in 2014 for most catches in a game.

Gervais completed 26-of-44 for 330 yards, the tenth time in his career he has surpassed the 300-yard mark in a game. He threw three touchdowns and also threw an interception.

Chauncey Bridges was the Oilers leading rusher with 18 carries for 84 yards.

Defensively, the Oilers were led by senior Myles Alexander who tied his season-high with another 13-tackle performance including a half-tackle for a loss. Francis Cutchember also played well as he picked up 12 tackles. It is the sixth time in seven games that he has had at least 11 tackles in a game.

Findlay is back in action next Saturday, October 15, when they take on the Hillsdale College Chargers. That Homecoming game will kick off at 2:00pm.
