The Game

Findlay returns home for their fourth of six home games in 2019, a game that has likely been circled on the colander since the schedule was announced. Findlay Oilers (4-2, 3-1 G-MAC)

Despite struggling a little last week against Walsh, the Oilers walked away with the win, their third consecutive victory, all of which were league contests. Now at 3-1 in the G-MAC and in third place in the standings, the game this Saturday against Hillsdale is the marquee matchup of the week and could go a long way in determining who will be crowed champion at year's end.

The offensive production has been solid at more than 32 points per game, but it is Findlay's defense that has been the highlight this season.

Second in the league in both sacks and interceptions, the Oilers' defense has been stout this year and have allowed less than 14 points in each of their previous two games. Against the run, Findlay is the best in the conference, allowing just 119 rushing yards per game. Conversely, teams have been forced to throw more and the Oilers' secondary has been ready, intercepting ten passes this year.

Leading the charge in that category has been the play of sophomore Christopher Jefferson who leads the country, regardless of division, in interceptions with seven, including five in the last two weeks.

Senior Richard Sheler leads the team with 40 tackles and has 2.5 tackles-for-loss while freshman David Marbury leads the team in TFL with 6.5, the most in the country among freshman defenders.

Hillsdale Chargers (4-2, 2-0 G-MAC)

Last year's G-MAC Champions, the Hillsdale Chargers were picked to repeat in 2019 and came into the season ranked 19th in the country in the AFCA Poll. Matched up in a home game against Michigan Tech, picked last in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) preseason poll, in the first game of the season, Hillsdale was in good shape to get off to a good start. That did not happen as the Chargers would take a fairly convincing loss to MTU by a 29-14 final. They followed that up with a week two loss at #15 Indianapolis to begin the season 0-2. Since those two opening losses, Hillsdale has won four consecutive games including a 37-30 overtime win at Northwood last week.
