Malone Ends #11 Oilers 16-Game Winning Streak

The University of Findlay men's basketball team had their 16-game winning streak snapped in Canton, Ohio on Feb. 1 as Malone University topped the Oilers by a score of 82-71. The loss gives the 11th-ranked Oilers a 20-3 record on the season with a 14-1 record in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Pioneers came out on fire and drilled nine three pointers in the first half en route to a 42-31 lead. Findlay then battled back to cut the lead to four at 68-64 with just under four minutes to play, but Malone pushed their lead back out to double figures in a matter of seconds to hold off any chance of a rally from the Oilers.

Senior guard Martyce Kimbrough led the Oilers with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting. He made 5-of-11 attempts from behind the three point line and also added a career-high four steals to go along with three assists.

Junior guard Trey Smith recorded a career-high 14 points off the bench and also added three assists and three rebounds.

Junior forward Alex White reached double figures with ten points to go along with eight rebounds while sophomore forward Matt Ashley had nine points off the pine.

The Oilers shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the floor and connected on 11-of-29 (37.9%) attempts from three point range. The Pioneers meanwhile made 56 percent (28-of-50) of their shot attempts and canned 12-of-23 (52.2%) shot attempts from behind the three point line.

Ty Jordan led the Pioneers with a game-high 26 points.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday when they face Walsh University at 1pm in Canton, Ohio.
