#17 Oilers Hold Off Panthers | Win 89-82

The 17th-ranked University of Findlay men's basketball team won a tight contest with Ohio Dominican University on Jan. 10 in the Croy Physical Education Center by a score of 89-82. The victory pushes the Oilers record to 13-2 on the season with a 7-1 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers trailed 82-81 with 38 seconds left. Senior forward Alex White then scored to make the score 83-82 in favor of the Oilers with only 15 seconds remaining. After a stop on defense, sophomore forward Anthony Masterlasco made a pair of attempts from the free throw line to push the Findlay lead to three at 82-82 with only five seconds to play. Sophomore guard Tommy Schmock then stole the inbound pass and then while he was fouled, heaved the ball to the basket and made a three pointer. He sank his free throw to complete the four-point play, accounting for the final margin of victory for the Oilers.

Findlay shot 50.7 percent (34-of-67) from the floor while the Panthers scorched the nets with a 57.9 percent (33-of-57) shooting clip. The Oilers did however come away with a season-high 12 steals and held a 48-40 advantage in paint points.

White led the way with another double-double as he finished the game with 22 points and ten boards. Schmock also recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and ten assists. Schmock also added three steals in the win.

Junior forward Aaron Overhiser reached double figures with 15 points in only 19 minutes of action due to foul trouble while senior guard Trey Smith had 13 points and four steals.

Sophomore forward Chazz George came off the bench to provide 12 points and four rebounds while Masterlasco finished with eight points and two steals.

The Panthers were led by Hasan Varence's 26 points and 13 rebounds.

The Oilers will be back at home on Saturday to host Ohio Valley University at 3pm.
