Oilers Beat #21 Walsh 91-86

The University of Findlay men's basketball team knocked off 21st-ranked Walsh University by a score of 91-86 on Feb. 1 in Niekamp Arena. The victory pushes the Oilers record to 14-6 on the season with a 9-2 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers were clinging to an 85-82 lead with 59 seconds remaining before freshman guard Joey Edmonds hit a contested three pointer to put the Oilers up by six with only 30 ticks left. After a pair of free throws by Walsh, freshman forward Nathan Bruns calmly drained two from the charity stripe to make the score 90-84 in favor of Findlay with only 17 seconds to play in the game. The Oilers would then add a free throw from sophomore guard Ethan Linder after a Walsh bucket for the final margin of the contest.

The Oilers shot 52.4 percent (33-of-63) from the floor while the Cavaliers connected on 56.9 percent (33-of-58) of their shot attempts. Findlay also made 10-of-28 (35.7%) tries from three point range while the Cavaliers converted 12-of-27 (44.4%) attempts from long range in the game.

Findlay's defense came away with ten steals and they got second chance scoring opportunities with ten offensive rebounds.

Bruns led the way with 19 points, five rebounds, and three steals while junior forward Chazz George provided a spark off the bench with 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals.

Senior forward Aaron Overhiser had 12 points while junior forward Anthony Masterlasco and junior guard Tre'Maine Gray had ten points apiece.

Edmonds finished with eight points and a career-high six boards while junior guard Tommy Schmock had seven points, nine assists, four rebounds, and three steals.

The Cavaliers were led by JT Shumate's 22 points.

The Oilers will hit the road next week to take on Kentucky Wesleyan College and Trevecca Nazarene University.
