Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's basketball team welcomed in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) newcomer Northwood University on Saturday, Dec. 17. The contest was close for ten minutes but a run by the Oilers put the home team in control as they went on to a comfortable 78-53 victory. Findlay improves to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the G-MAC with the victory while the loss drops Northwood to a 1-11 start to the year with a 1-5 record in conference action.

Five minutes in, Northwood took a 10-9 lead on a layup by Noah Pruitt. A quick 9-2 run put Findlay back in front, where they would remain, eventually building up a 38-27 lead at the half.

The Oilers never went on an extended scoring run, but continued to outscore the Timberwolves, making two buckets for every one by the visitors.

Findlay's largest lead was 25 points and came at the end of the game on an emphatic two-handed dunk by freshman Mason Brandt. That 25-point margin remained until the clock hit 0:00, a 78-53 win for the Oilers.

The big differentiator in Saturday's contest was quite simply the team's ability to shoot the basketball. Findlay hit 32-of-59 (.542) from the floor despite not shooting it extremely well from deep (5-of-14 - .357). Northwood struggled, making just 23-of-58 (.397) including a dismal 3-of-13 (.231) from beyond the arc.

Findlay held a 33-29 advantage on the glass and dominated down low, scoring 46 of their 78 points from the paint.

Five Oilers scored in double-figures with senior Deven Stover leading the way. Stover scored 13 points and had four rebounds while fellow senior Nathan Bruns rounded out the stat sheet with 12 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

Senior Joey Edmonds scored ten points and had four assists to round out the starters who scored in double figures.

Coming off the bench and making their presence felt were junior Andrew Owens and senior Cameron Shaw who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Owens added three rebounds and a block.

Freshman Max Roth played a solid game as he had eight points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal while senior Eisley Swaine scored four points, had six rebounds, five assists, and a steal.

Findlay is back in action on Monday, Dec. 19 with a trip to take on in-region rival Ferris State in Big Rapids, Michigan. That game will tip at 7:00 pm and can be WATCHED LIVE and LISTENED TO LIVE.
