Oilers Overcome Late Game Charge by Trailblazers | Win 94-84

Box Score

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's basketball team picked up a non-conference win on Thursday, Dec. 29 as they hosted Ohio Christian University (NAIA) in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers used a dominant first half to pick up a 94-84 victory over the Trailblazers to improve to 8-5 on the season while Ohio Christian remains at 5-8 as they played Thursday's game as an exhibition contest.

Midway through the first half, Findlay's lead remained less than ten at 19-13. The Oilers closed the half on a 33-15 run, ultimately taking a 52-28 lead into halftime.

The Trailblazer's play improved in the second half, outscoring Findlay 56-42 in the final 20 minutes of action. Three-point shooting certainly helped in that effort as Ohio Christian hit .500 of their attempts from deep in the second half while the Oilers hit just 4-of-13 from deep in the same time frame.

By games' end, however, Findlay's first half dominance was too much as the Oilers would go on to a 10-point victory on the final day of 2022 basketball in Niekamp Arena.

Findlay shot 34-of-68 (.500) in the game including 14-of-30 (.467) from deep. The three-point effort was helped by a red-hot start for the Oilers which hit ten triples.

Senior Joey Edmonds led the way with a 23-point night, making 8-of-13 attempts from the floor including five from beyond the arc. He also grabbed two rebounds and added one steal.

The duo of junior Andrew Owens and senior Nathan Bruns scored 18 points a piece. Owens had three triples and was 7-of-10 from the floor while Bruns, who also had nine rebounds, was 3-of-5 from deep and 6-10 from the floor.

The Oilers are back in action in the new year as they travel on Saturday, Jan. 7 to Cedarville University to continue Great Midwest play. That contest will tip off at 4:15 pm.
