Griffith Ties School Record | Oilers in Third at Kyle Ryman

Tiffin, OH – On Monday, Oct. 8, the University of Findlay men's golf team traveled east on Route 224 to Tiffin to participate in the annual Kyle Ryman Memorial Tournament played at Mohawk Golf & Country Club. Participants played 36 holes of golf on a muggy first day of action. Through two rounds, the Oilers are in third place overall after posting a ten-over 586 (291/295). Findlay is 12 shots off the leader, Tiffin, which shot two-under through 36 holes.

Despite playing on Findlay's 'B' team in the event, junior Sam Griffith stole the show on Monday after posting a pair of 69's to finish six-under with one round to play. Griffith began the day with birdies on four of his opening six holes to kick-off the best single day of golf in his three-year career at Findlay. With a two-round score of 138 (-6), Griffith tied the University of Findlay 36-hole record, matching the effort of Joe McGeean who posted a six-under, 138 through two rounds at the Arendsen Invitational in 2010. In total, the Findlay, Ohio native made 11 birdies, seven of which came on the back nine.

Leading Findlay's 'A' squad was junior Luke Kelly, the reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Player of the Week. Kelley ends the day tied for fourth overall after a 143 (-1). Kelly was two-under through his first nine holes and shot 73 (+1) in his first round. In his afternoon session, Kelly made five birdies to finish with a 70 (-2).

Sophomore Parker Haynes also opened up with a 73 (+1) in his first round and closed out his day with a 71 (-1) to shoot an even-par 144 on the day. That score has the Elizabethtown, Ky. native in a tie for sixth.

A pair of freshman are also in the top-20 as Hunter Foltz and Caleb Westfall shot 149 (+5) and 150 (+6), respectively. Foltz, tied for 15th, shot a 74 in his first 18 holes and wrapped up with a 75 in his afternoon round whole Westfall, tied for 18th, posted a pair of 75s.

Rounding out the 'A' squad was freshman Tanner Grzegorczyk who shot a 78 and 75 to end the day with a 153 (+9). He is currently in a tie for 27th.
