Oilers Fall by One Stroke to Finish Runner-Up

Findlay, Ohio-  The University of Findlay men's golf team completed their final round of the Doc Spragg Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Findlay Country Club. Going into the final 18 holes, the Oilers held the top spot on the leaderboard with a 4 shot lead over Wayne State. Wayne State ultimately edged out the Oilers by one stroke to win the invitational. The Oilers shot 873 (+9) with rounds of 288, 286, and 299.

Senior Luke Kelly led the Oilers on the course once more to post a 54-hole score of 212 (-4). His rounds of 72, 68, and 72 punched his ticket to an all-tournament honor with his tie for second finish while leading the field in par 4 scoring.

In a tie for 12th, sophomore Caleb Westfall gave back a few shots in the final round to finish with a three round total of 220 (+4) posting rounds of 71, 71, and 78. Senior Sam Griffith finished a few strokes back with a consistent few rounds of 73,75, and 74 for his 54-hole total of 222(+6) . His score placed him in a tie for 20th.

Rounding out the Oilers' lineup were Parker Haynes and Hunter Foltz. Haynes compiled rounds of 72,76, and 75, placing him in a tie for 24th and 223 (+7) total. Foltz went on to shoot a three round total of 228 from his rounds of 78, 72, and 78, good for a tie for 45th.

The Oilers' B squad finished in 11th place in a high caliber regional field. The Oilers were led by sophomore Tanner Grzegorczyk after posting a 54-hole score of 221 after his two even-par rounds in round one and two along with a final round 77 (+5). Freshman Jack Soper was able to move up the leaderboard after posting his final round 70 (-2) to move into a tie for 20th with a 222 (+6). Seniors Peyton Cooper and Drew Prater tied for 35th and 75th respectively for the invite. Cooper posted a 226 (+10) and Prater 236 (+20) along with freshman Connor Ohlrich posting a 242 (+26).

The Oilers' C team came in a tie for 15th for the event. They were led by senior Cameron Bruce who tied for 30th after posting a 71 (-1) final round to add to his three round total of 224 (+8). Junior Brock Kehres finished in a tie for 38th with a total of 227 (+11), along with senior Grant Ricketts in a tie for 65th (+16/232) and freshman Holden Scribner tying for 69th (+18/234).

The Oilers will have a week off before competing in the Kyle Ryman Invitational at Mohawk Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, October 7 and 8.
