Oilers in Second at Folds of Honor Challenge

Allendale, Mich.- The University of Findlay men's golf team completed day one of the Fold of Honors Challenge, today, Oct. 3 at the Meadows at Grand Valley State University. The Folds of Honor, the Golf Coaches Association of America, and Grand Valley State University partnered to host the tournament that is serving as a qualifying opportunity for the 2023 Folds of Honor Intercollegiate. The winning school will receive an invitation to compete at the 2023 Folds of Honor Intercollegiate held at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich. 

The Oilers finished day one with a 36-hole score of 576 (+8) and are currently in second place with rounds of 289 (+5) and 287 (+3). They are in second behind Grand Valley State who is seven-under par for the tournament.

Leading the way for the Oilers was senior standout, Tanner Grzegorczyk. After an opening round of 72 (+1), Grzegorczyk caught fire, making birdies on his first two holes of the second round. He would go onto shoot three-under par on his first nine (started on hole 9). He would end up making a birdie and a bogey on his closing nine to shoot a 67 (-4). Grzegorczyk led the field in par five scoring. He played the par fives at five-under par, averaging 4.17. He is tied for second at three-under par. He chases Grand Valley State's Charles Delong who is nine-under par for the tournament. 

Assisting Grzegorcyk were seniors Caleb Westfall and Hunter Foltz. Westfall recorded rounds of 72 (+1) and 73 (+2). He is three-over par in sixth place overall. Foltz meanwhile is at four-over par and in a tie for seventh. He shot rounds of 73 (+2) and 73 (+2). Junior Donnie Professori also is at four-over par and in a tie for seventh, carding rounds of 72 (+1) and 74 (+3). Rounding out the Oilers lineup was junior Justin Atkinson. Atkinson is 14-over par and in a tie for 40th. He recorded rounds of 76 (+5) and 80 (+9).

Competing as an individual at the event is sophomore Tyler Vallee. Vallee is tied for 48th at 17-over par after rounds of 79 (+8) and 80 (+9). 

The Oilers are chasing Grand Valley State who leads the tournament at seven-under par. They are scheduled for a shotgun start at 10:30am tomorrow.
