Oilers Lose to Battlers

Philippi, WV – The University of Findlay men's soccer team took a tough loss to the Alderson Broaddus Battlers on Thursday, October 4. The final score was 3-2. The Oilers move to 2-9 on the season with a 2-6 record in conference play. The Battlers improve to 5-6-1 on the season with a conference record of 5-4-1.

Alderson Broaddus came out shooting with two shots to start off the game. Senior Nathan Sier was able to stop both of those shots but was unable to save the first goal of the game which was made by the Battlers in the 15th minute off of a corner kick.

However, the Oilers didn't let the Battlers hold the lead for long. Junior Josh Dickinson was able to get the ball to freshman Taylor Miles for a goal in the 19th minute of the match, tying the game up at 1-1. Less than a minute later, Alderson Broaddus came firing back with another goal to put the game in their favor.

In a scoring frenzy, the Oilers then answered back just 35 seconds later with a goal by sophomore Josh Hales to tie the game up once again. The half ended with a score of 2-2.

The second half began with each team aggressively looking to score to take the lead. Yellow cards were awarded to both teams as shots were being fired on each end of the field. Alderson Broaddus was able to break the tie with a goal in the 61st minute of the match, which proved to be just enough to last until the end of game to make the final score 3-2 in their favor.

Senior Nathan Sier was in net for the Oilers and picked up three saves in the loss.

The Oilers will be playing again on Saturday, October 4 at Davis and Elkins College. The G-MAC matchup is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
