Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men`s soccer team took on the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots on Tuesday, September 10 in their season opener at DeHaven Field. The Oilers took on the Fighting Scots who were once again ranked inside the top 10 in the nation coming to Findlay. In last year`s meeting, Ohio Valley was ranked #6 in the nation when Findlay upset them at home 2-0.
This year, the Fighting Scots were #7 in the nation coming into the contest. For the second consecutive year, the Oilers won against the ranked Ohio Valley team at DeHaven by a score of 2-1 in double overtime.
Ohio Valley struck first with 9:08 on the clock when Hugo Kadima kicked it in the lower right corner of the net. That would be the only goal to come for another 60 minutes until senior Josh Dickinson would tie it up for the Oilers.
Dickinson from the top of the box would strike one through the back of the net with 72:32 left on the clock. Dickinson ended the game with a game high 5 shots and 3 shots on goal. Dickinson added an important assist as well in double overtime.
After the end of regulation, the score was tied 1-1, and the same would be the case after the first overtime. However, the second overtime changed score in the Oilers` favor.
With the clock at 100:53, Dickinson found open teammate Alex Kerstetter diving towards the box, and Kerstetter completed the rest. On his third shot of the game, it found the back of the net to end the game and upset #7 in the nation in the home opener for the men`s team.
The Oilers outshot the Fighting Scots 15-12 in the contest. Goalkeeper Andrew Boulton had 6 saves throughout the game.
The Oilers start the season 2-0 , and will have another home game against the visiting Daemen University on Saturday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m. at DeHaven Field.
