Oilers Split on Senior Day

The University of Findlay softball team hosted Northwood University for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader for senior day on Saturday, April 22. The Oilers won the first game in walk-off fashion, but dropped the second game to move to 19-20 on the season and 9-9 in GLIAC play.

Game 1 W 6-5 Box Score

The Oilers overcame a three run deficit with three runs in the sixth inning to pull out a 6-5 victory in game one in eight innings.

The Timberwolves scored two runs in the first inning on a double by Torriya Gray-Baker. The Oilers picked up a run of their own in the bottom of the first on a RBI by senior Lauren Trumpler to score junior Destinie Keeton, who tripled in the inning. With that RBI Trumpler now has 100 career RBIs, moving into 4th all-time in a career.

Northwood added to their lead in the fifth inning with two runs on a single by Riley Ostapowicz. Findlay knotted up the score in the sixth with three runs.

A fielding error allowed junior Kelley Cejer to reach first. Trumpler and junior Madison Arnold drew walks to load the bases. With two outs junior Meredith Shepherd delivered a double to clear the bases for a 4-4 tie.

The Timberwolves tacked on another run in the top of the seventh to regain the lead, but the Oilers were able to force extra innings on a single by Cejer to score Farst.

In the bottom of the eighth Shepherd roped a single down the right field line to score Arnold for a walk-off 6-5 victory.

Shepherd finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. The Oilers recorded five hits in the game and one error while the Timberwolves had seven hits with three errors.

Sophomore Hailey Bryan (11-9) picked up the victory in the circle after coming in to pitch the final inning. Senior Jenna Inman started the game and pitched seven innings. She gave up five runs on seven hits with two walks while striking out two.

The Timberwolves were able to score early in the second game as well. They scored one run in the first inning and tacked on three more in the second for a 4-0 lead.

The Oilers got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning on a RBI double by Arnold to trail 4-1. Northwood responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the fourth to extend the lead to 5-1. The Timberwolves added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for an 8-1 final.

Bryan (11-10) took the loss for the Oilers. She pitched 3.1 innings giving up five runs on ten hits with one strikeout. Junior Morgan James came in to pitch the remaining 2.2 innings. She gave up three runs on four hits.

At plate the Oilers registered five hits, compared to 14 for Northwood. Arnold went 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead the Oilers

The Oilers return to action on Sunday, April 23 when they will host Saginaw Valley State University for a GLIAC doubleheader. The first game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
