Oilers Split with Lourdes

Toledo, OH – The University of Findlay softball team split in double-header play with the Lourdes University Gray Wolves on Monday, April 2. The games bring the Oilers to a 16-15 overall record on the year.

Game 1 | L 1-2 (Box Score)

Defense was the story in game one, with only three total runs being scored between the two teams.

Lourdes was the first to scrape one across, scoring a run in the bottom of the third by drawing a walk with the bases loaded.

The two teams would remain silent offensively until the last inning of competition.

After a leadoff strikeout, recently named G-MAC Player of the Week Madison Arnold delivered a single to right field to give the offense life.

Sadie Gearhart stepped up and ripped a single up the middle that put her on first and Arnold on second.

After advancing to third on a fielder's choice ground ball, Arnold scored on a single through the left side from the bat of Meredith Shepherd.

After a pop up for the third out, the Oilers went into the bottom of the inning in a 1-1 deadlock.

The Gray Wolves responded to the challenge though, ultimately delivering a walk-off single with the bases loaded to claim the victory.

Leading offensively for the Oilers with two hits each was Arnold, Shepherd, and Gearhart.

Megan Fisher started on the mound for the Oilers. Fisher went 5.0 innings while allowing one run (earned), two hits, and recording four strikeouts.

Molly Crosby entered the game in the sixth inning and received the loss, allowing one run and recording one strikeout.

Game 2 | W 13 – 3 (Box Score)

The Oiler offense did no waiting in the second game, scoring three runs in the top of the first and adding two more in the second.

Madison Arnold scored from first base on a double to deep right center field from Amanda Delmonte to get Findlay going.

A throwing error from the shortstop off the bat of Devyn Zuro scored Delmonte and Brooke Otto, giving the Oilers a 3-0 lead.

Delmonte came up big again in the second, ripping a two-RBI single up the middle to score Meredith Shepherd and Lauren Linn.

Lourdes didn't lay down, as they scored three runs in the bottom of the third to bring the score to 5-3.

The Oilers had a fifth inning flurry of offense, scoring 10 runs on the Gray Wolves defense.

The scoring was highlighted by a two-RBI single from Arnold that scored Breanna Cleland and Lauren Yacks.

Evyn Kachenmeister also ripped a two-RBI single to right field that scored Arnold and Meredith Shepherd.

Hailey Bryan came into the game in the bottom of the fifth to pitch, and got the Lourdes hitters to go three-up three-down and secured the 10 run-rule victory.

Starting the game and receiving the victory on the mound was Devyn Zuro, who pitched four innings while allowing two hits, three runs (all earned), and recording six strikeouts.

The Oilers will be back on the field this Saturday, April 7 when they host a GMAC double-header with Trevecca Nazarene.
