Oilers Sweep Day Against Hillsdale

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay softball team swept a G-MAC double-header against the Hillsdale College Chargers on Sunday, April 8. The two wins boost the Oilers to a 19-16 overall record, with a 9-1 record in the conference while the Trojans fall to 10-10 (4-4).

Game 1 | W 5 – 2 (Box Score)

After giving up a two-RBI single in the top of the first inning, the Oilers faced an early 2-0 deficit to start their day.

The Oilers were able to cut the lead down in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on a Rebecca Harvey single to score Amanda Delmonte and bring the score to 2-1.

After limited offensive action for the next three innings, Harvey led off the top of the fourth with a single to left field.

After a sacrifice bunt from Madison Arnold, Salwa Al-Hajabed drew a walk to put Oiler runners on first and second.

Evyn Kachenmeister stepped to the plate and blasted a three-RBI homerun over the right centerfield fence to give Findlay the two run lead.

Kachenmeister stayed hot and the plate and delivered a single in the bottom of the sixth to score the fifth and final run for the Oilers, bringing the score to the eventual 6-2 decision.

Starting and receiving the victory on the mound for the Oilers was Hailey Bryan, who allowed two runs (both earned) and eight hits while recording two strikeouts in her seven-inning outing.

Game 2 | W 6 – 2 (Box Score)

The Oilers fell behind early again in the second game, this time allowing one run to be scored in the top of the first inning.

Findlay did not allow that lead to last, sprinkling in runs throughout several innings to build their lead and secure the victory.

Scoring began in the bottom of the second for Findlay, with Kachenmeister continuing her monster day by hitting another homerun and evening the score at 1-1.

The Oilers picked up two more runs in the third by way of a single up the middle from Delmonte and a single through the first base side from the bat of Arnold.

Arnold had another impressive offensive performance, adding on a two-RBI homerun of her own in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 5-1.

The last Oiler run was scored in the bottom of the six, when Dustin Wiley crossed the plate by way of a single ripped up the middle by Rebecca Harvey.

Caragyn Yanek picked up her third win of the year, going 5.2 innings while allowing only one run (earned), one walk, and striking out three Charger hitters.

Also pitching for the Oilers were Molly Crosby, who went 0.2 innings, allowed one run (earned), one hit,  and recording two strikeouts, and Megan Fisher, who also went 0.2 innings, allowed zero runs, one hit, and struck out one Hillsdale hitter.

Kachenmeister lead the Oilers offensively by going 5-7 on the day with two homeruns, four RBIs, and scoring four runs.

Also leading Findlay offensively was Arnold, who went 4-5 with a homerun and three RBIs.

The Oilers will be back on the field for more G-MAC play on Saturday, April 14 when they host a double-header with Alderson Broaddus. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
