Oilers Season Comes to Close in G-MAC Tournament

Xenia, OH – The University of Findlay softball team had their season come to an end after losing their second game in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Friday, May 4. The Oilers won their first game of the day in a 4-2 final over first seeded Cedarville, but say their season come to an end after a 1-4 loss to third seeded Ohio Dominican. The Oilers finished with a 29-22 overall record, with a 17-5 record in the G-MAC.

Game 1 | W 4 – 2 (Box Score)

The first game of the day was a back and forth battle for the Oilers.

Cedarville got the scoring going in the top of the first on a sacrifice bunt to the third basemen to give them the early lead.

Findlay wasted no time reclaiming the lead, scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the first.

Senior Meredith Shepherd started the bottom of the inning with a leadoff double and scored on the next at-bat when fellow senior Madison Arnold sent a double to the leftfield gap.

Amanda Delmonte, also a senior, kept the offense going with a single to left center that scored Arnold from second and gave the Oilers the 2-1 lead.

Scoring was idle until the top of the fourth, when the Yellow Jackets evened the contest on an RBI single through the middle.

The Oilers reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs to bring the score to the 4-2 final.

Brooke Otto started the inning with a single to center and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Allison Brunner.

A single form Shepherd put Brunner on third, and she was scored on the next at-bat on a fielder's choice to the shortstop from Arnold that also put Shepherd on third.

Two batters later, Rebecca Harvey stepped in as a pinch hitter and delivered a sacrifice fly to score Shepherd.

Receiving the victory on the mound and pitching a complete game for Findlay was Hailey Bryan. In her seven innings, Bryan allowed three hits, two runs (one earned), walked one batter, and struck out six Yellow Jackets. Bryan finished with a 15-6 record on the year.

Game 2 | L 1 – 4 (Box Score)

The second game of the day was another hard-fought contest that this time left the Oilers on the losing end.

Findlay again faced an early deficit, giving up a run in the top of the first on an RBI double to the left field gap.

Scoring was dormant until the bottom of the fourth, when the Oilers were able to bring the contest to a 1-1 deadlock.

Salwa Al-Hajabed began the offense on a single to left field and was replaced at first base with pinch runner Montana Walker.

The single was followed up with another single from Brooke Otto, putting runners on first and second base.

With two outs, Allison Brunner hit a groundball that was mishandled by the shortstop, allowing Walker to score the game-tying run.

That would be it for the Oiler scoring, as they were not able to get a runner past second base for the rest of the game.

Ohio Dominican scored the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth on a single to left field and added two more insurance runs in the top of the six to bring the game to the 4-1 final.

Megan Fisher was the starter in the circle and received the loss on the day. Fisher allowed five hits, two runs (earned), no walks, and recorded four strikeouts in her 4.1 innings.

Hailey Bryan entered the game in the fifth, and in her 1.2 innings allowed five hits, two runs (earned), and walked one batter.

Caragyn Yanek finished the game on the mound, going one inning and allowed no runs, zero hits, one walk, and recorded one strikeout.
