Oilers Drop Two Games in Rosemont, Ill.

Rosemont, Ill. – The University of Findlay softball team played just outside of Chicago in The Dome in Rosemont, Ill. on Friday, Feb. 21. The Oilers came up short in their morning game against the McKendree Bearcats by a score of 8-1 and then dropped the second game of the day against Winona State by a score of 5-3. With the two losses, Findlay drops their record to 2-2 on the year.

Game 1 (L 8-1 vs. McKendree)

Findlay struggled to find their offense in the opener as they were unable to record their first hit until the fourth inning of action. Trailing 1-0, reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Pitcher of the Week, junior Megan Fisher, walked with one out. Senior Emily Barr pinch ran for Fisher and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Madelyn Turner to tie the game at 1-1.

McKendree regained the lead with one run in the bottom of the fourth and later scored two runs in the fifth. They sealed the win with a four-run sixth inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

The Oilers went quietly in the seventh, ending the contest.

Findlay finished the game with just two hits, one by junior Dylan Wiley and the other by sophomore Lyndsey Seamon. Madelyn Turner had the only RBI for the Oilers.

In the circle, Fisher took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season. She tossed five innings and allowed four runs, just one earned, on two hits. She walked three and struck out seven.

Game 2 (L 6-3 vs. Winona State)

The Warriors of Winona State wasted no time taking a lead against the Oilers as they plated three runs in the top of the first inning to take control of the game.

After going scoreless three the first four innings, the Oilers, who left four runners on base over the first four frames, broke through with three runs in the fifth. The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Lyndsey Seamon who roped a two-out single to plate two runs and tie the game at 3-3.

The Warriors got the big hit they needed in the top of the seventh, a three-RBI double with two outs to take a 6-3 lead.

Findlay threatened with a pair of hits in the bottom of the seventh, but those runners were both stranded.

In the game, the Oilers scored three runs on six hits and did not commit an error.

Seamon led the way with two hits and two RBI while junior Sadie Gearhart had a hit, a walk, and a run scored.

Junior Caragyn Yanek took the loss for the Oilers as she tossed six innings of relief. Yanek allowed two runs on four hits, walked seven, and struck out three.
