The University of Findlay softball team split a doubleheader with Lake Erie College on April 23 in Painesville, Ohio as they won the first game 7-5 in eight innings before falling 7-1 in game two. The split snapped the Oilers 18-game winning streak and gives them a 32-10 record on the year with a 16-2 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

In the first game, the Oilers trailed 5-1 in the fifth before rallying. They scored two in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh to tie the game and force extra innings. In the top of the eighth then, senior Lexie Hilling smashed a two-run homer which proved to be the game-winner.

Hilling finished 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and a run scored while senior Kyla Snow plated two on the day.

Sophomore Avery Shepherd, senior Caroline Turner, and senior Megan Demler each had two hits apiece as well.

In the circle, Demler settled down after a rough start to strikeout a career-high 16 batters in eight innings of work. She allowed five runs, only four earned, on three hits. Demler's big day enabled her to break the school record for career strikeouts. She now has 407 in her career.

In the second game, Snow plated the Oilers lone run with a double and freshman Emma Jones took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of action.

The Oilers will be back in action again on April 29 when they host Tiffin University in a doubleheader beginning at 3pm on Anderson Field.
