Oilers Fall to #5 Greyhounds in 1st Round

(Indianapolis, Ind.) The University of Findlay softball team fell 8-2 to fifth-ranked University of Indianapolis on May 12 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional. The loss gives the Oilers a 36-15 record on the season.

The Oilers got off to a great start when senior Lexie Hilling drove in sophomore Avery Shepherd with a single in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds then answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs to take a 2-1 advantage.

Still trailing 2-1 in the sixth the Oilers looked as though they were going to rally has they had runners on second and third after a fielder's choice by Hilling and a double by senior Caroline Turner. Freshman Brooke Radermacher then lifted a long fly ball to center that was caught at the fence giving some momentum back to the Greyhounds who then broke the game wide open in their half of the inning with six runs.

The Oilers would tack on another run in the seventh for the final margin as Demler singled home senior Kelsey Carter.

Demler took the loss after allowing eight runs and five hits. She struck out seven and walked three. She also reached base three times at the plate with a pair of singles and a walk.

The Oilers will play Ohio Dominican University tomorrow at 1:30pm in a win or go home scenario.
