Oilers Women Take Down SVSU in Home Opener
Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay swimming and diving team hosted their first event of the year on Saturday, Oct. 19 in the Sink Natatorium, a dual meet with the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. Findlay's men took a loss as they were outscored 169-to-124 while the women's team won 173-to-123.
Women
In the 400 yard medley relay, junior Sarah Miles, senior Hanna Cederholm, senior Katy Kouvaris, and freshman Megan Irwin were the only squad to finish the race in less than four minutes, earning the win in a time of 3:59.81. Junior Payton Zess, sophomore Kristina Coleman, junior Ashton Klopp, and sophomore Chris McFarland took second in the race with a time of 4:02.06.
Irwin later competed in the 200 yard freestyle where she finished with a time of 1:57.70 to finish in the top spot while McFarland earned a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.05. In the 500 yard freestyle, Irwin also won, touching the wall in 5:16.65.
Standout Hanna Cederholm, who holds the UF record in the event, took first in the 100 yard breaststroke as she outpaced the field by almost five seconds, touching the wall in 1:05.91. She also earned a win in the 200 yard IM with a 2:12.34.
Coleman sprinted to a win in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.14 while McFarland picked up a win in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing in 54.24, and in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.48.
Findlay's 400 yard freestyle relay team of Megan Irwin, Coleman, Rachel Poling, and Lauren Blanchard posted a time of 3:45.19 to earn the final win of the evening for the Oilers.
Men
Findlay's 400 yard medley relay team also won on the men's side as freshman Jaeger Loran, senior Isaac Stretch, freshman Colin Martin, and senior Trent Williams raced to a time of 3:30.93. Sophomore Paul Pavala, senior Adam Stretch, freshman Alex Wisler, and junior Nathan Bourne also competed in the event and finished second with a 3:35.33.
In the 100 yard backstroke, freshman Tim Stollings raced to a time of 51.59 for a first place finish while Jaeger Loran took second with a 53.21.
Isaac Stretch won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 58.30 while his brother, Adam, was close behind, touching the wall in 1:00.28 for a second place finish.
Pavala later swam in the 200 yard backstroke where his time of 1:59.23 was good enough for a win while Stollings picked up another win, this time in the 100 yard butterfly, reaching the wall in a time of 50.89.
The Oilers are out of the pool now until November 1-2 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan where they will take on both Davenport University and Kalamazoo College.
