Findlay Competes on Day 1 of Calvin Invite

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving team participated on the first of three days at the Calvin University Invitational in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Thursday, Dec. 5. Through four events, the women's team is in fifth out of eight teams with 106 points while the men are in sixth out of seven teams with 78 points.

The first race of the night was the women's 800 yard freestyle relay. Findlay's A squad consisting of freshman Megan Irwin, junior Sarah Miles, junior Ashton Klopp, and senior Katy Kouvaris, touched the wall in a time of 7:51.98 which was good enough for a sixth place finish. There were 20 relay teams competing in the event.

Findlay's next competitor was senior Sydney Zimdars who took part in the women's 1650 yard free. Zimdars, the Oilers' record holder in the event, took 12th place out of 32 athletes with a time of 18:11.22.

The Oilers rounded out the day in the men's 800 yard free relay. Findlay's team of senior Trent Williams, junior Nathan Bourne, sophomore Jared Toaz, and freshman Colin Martin raced to a ninth place finish, touching the wall in 6:56.56. There were 20 teams in the event.

Findlay is back in the pool tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 6 for the second of the three day event.
