Findlay Wraps Up Calvin Winter Invite
Grand Rapids, Mich. - The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving team finished up competition at the Calvin Invite. Both the men's team and the women's team finished in fourth place, as the men's team scored 1096 points, and the women's team scored 1059 points.
Women's Results:
The Oilers women's 200 yard medley relay team of sophomore Chris McFarland, senior Hanna Cedarholm, senior Katy Kouvaris, and sophomore Kristina Coleman took first place with a time of 1:43.05. This time was just .27 seconds away from breaking the current school record and was a NCAA "B" standard time. Findlay's B team of junior Payton Zess, freshman Rachel Poling, junior Ashton Klopp, and senior Lauren Blanchard finished in 11th place with a time of 1:50.66.
Cedarholm broke her own school record and set a new G-MAC record in the 200 yard breastroke with a NCAA "B" standard time, as she clocked in 2:17.11, which put her in first place in the event. Her previous record was a time of 2:17.71. She also took fourth in the 200 yard IM at 2:10.81 and was followed by Klopp, who took sixth, at 2:11.35. Klopp also took sixth in the 200 yard backstroke at 2:08.62.
Kouvaris took third place in the 100 yard butterfly clocking in at 56:90 while McFarland finished in 11th place with a time of 58.34.
In the 500 yard freestyle, freshman Megan Irwin took fifth place, clocking in at 5:07.73. Senior Sydney Zimdars took 17th place with a time of 5:20.05.
Ashton Klopp clocked in at 2:08.62 in the 200 yard backstroke, placing her in sixth. Zess was not far behind, as she had a time of 2:09.22, which was good enough to give her a ninth place finish. Brette Klopp finished in
Men's Results:
The men's 200 yard medley relay team consisting of freshman Tim Stollings, senior Isaac Stretch, freshman Colin Martin, and senior Trent Williams shattered the school record for the race as they clocked in at NCAA "B" qualifying time of 1:28.83, which placed them in second in the event. The previous record was a time of 1:31.66 that took place in 2017.
Sophomore Paul Pavala got second place in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.10, breaking his own school record of 1:49.28 and achieving a NCAA "B" standard. Freshman Jaeger Loran got ninth place with a time of 1:53.12. Sophomore Jared Toaz clocked in at 1:56.79, placing him in 12th.
Stollings, (47.93), and Martin, (49.46), placed second and third in the 100 yard butterfly. Stollings was only .13 seconds away from breaking the school record and achieved a NCAA "B" standard in the event. Freshman Alex Wisler clocked in at 50.98, placing 11th.
Junior Nathan Bourne got eighth place in the 200 yard breastroke, as he clocked in for a time of 2:08.69. Stretch was right behind him, placing ninth with a time of 2:07.93. Bourne also placed eighth in the 200 yard IM, clocking in at 1:57.11. Toaz finished in ninth place in the event. Pavala placed 11th.
Martin swam a time of 46.45 in the 100 yard freestyle, placing sixth in the event while Williams clocked in at 46.76 to take 11th. Martin also raced to a time of 45.35 in the event during the preliminary round, reaching the NCAA "B" standard.
In the diving category, junior Dalton Shelvin placed fifth in the event with a score of 392.75.
The Oilers next contest will take place on Monday, December 16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
