Oilers Complete Meet in Indy

Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving team competed in a tri meet against the University of Indianapolis and Toledo University on Monday, December 16. The men's team was defeated by the score of 172 to 67 to the University of Indianapolis. For the women's team, they were defeated by Toledo by the score of 155 to 80, and also were defeated by Indianapolis by the score of 150 to 85.

Men's Results: 

The men's 200 yard medley relay team of freshman Timothy Stollings, senior Isaac Stretch, freshman Alex Wisler, and freshman Colin Martin took first place with a time of 1:30.78. 

Sophomore Paul Pavala zoomed across the finish line in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 50.21, which was good enough for first place. Stollings placed second with a time of 51.29. Stollings also placed second in the 50 yard freestyle race, clocking in at 21.27. 

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Martin, senior Trent Williams, Wisler, and junior Nathan Bourne got second place in the event with a time of 1:24.34. 

Martin clocked in at 50.36 in the 100 yard butterfly, placing him second in the event while Bourne got a time of 1:57.84 in the 200 yard IM race, placing him second. 

In the 100 yard breaststroke, senior Adam Stretch placed second with a time of 57.39. Isaac Stretch got fourth place, clocking in at 1:00.46, while sophomore Jared Toaz placed fifth with a time of 1:02.04. 

Williams placed third in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.93. 

Women's Results:

The women's 200 yard medley relay team consisting of sophomore Chris McFarland, senior Hannah Cedarholm, senior Katy Kouvaris, and sophomore Kristina Coleman took first place with a time of 1:44.91. The B team of junior Payton Zess, freshman Rachel Poling, junior Ashton Klopp, and senior Lauren Blanchard took fifth place with a time of 1:49.97. 

In the 200 yard freestyle, the Oilers placed fourth with the team of Kouvaris, freshman Megan Irwin, Blanchard, and Poling with a time of 1:41.75. 

Cederholm snagged first place in the 100 yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:03.19, which qualifies her for the B standard for the NCAA national championships, and is also the fourth fastest mark in GMAC history. Coleman wasn't far behind as she got fourth place with a time of 1:07.50. Cedarholm also placed third in the 200 yard IM, as she clocked in with a time of 2:06.96. 

In the 1000 yard freestyle, Irwin placed fourth in the event with a time of 10:50.05. Senior Sydney Zimdars was right behind Irwin, finishing sixth with a time of 11:10.83. Irwin also placed fourth in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.03. Junior Murphy Vance got fifth place, clocking in at 5:21.92. 

McFarland snatched first place in the 100 yard backstroke, clocking in at 57.74. Zess got fifth place with a time of 59.25. To add to that, McFarland finished in third place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.58. Coleman was inches behind as she got fourth place with 24.63. 

Kouvaris grabbed fourth place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.57. Ashton Klopp finished in fifth place with a time of 59.86. 

The Oilers will be off through the holidays and the New Year, as their next contest will take place on Friday, January 10 as they will host Ashland. That meet is set to start at 6:00 PM.
