Oilers Fly Past Eagles in the Pool

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted their second meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 10 in the Sink Natatorium as they took on Ashland University. Both teams came away with convincing victories. The men won by a score of 153-74 while the women won 150-88.

Men

Freshman Colin Martin took first place in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 22.35. He also was a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay team that took first place. That team consisted of senior Tucker Stocker, junior Nathan Bourne, senior Trent Williams, and Martin. They teamed up to finish in a time of 3:17.79.

In the other relay, the 400 yard medley relay, freshman Tim Stollings, senior Isaac Stretch, Bourne, and sophomore Tyler Endecott finished in a time of 3:33.87 to take first. Bourne also participated in the 200 yard IM and took second with a time of 2:05.12. Taking the top spot in that race was sophomore Jared Toaz who outpaced the field with a 2:02.27.

Williams earned a top finish in the 100 yard freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 48.68 while freshman Jaegar Loran won the 100 yard backstroke (52.80) and Isaac Stretch won the 100 yard breaststroke (58.68).

Junior Dalton Shevlin won both the one and three meter diving competitions. In the one meter, Shevlin scored a 262.43 and later posted a 259.05 in the three meter.

Women

Senior Sydney Zimdars picked up a pair of first place finishes, taking the top spot in both the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle races. In the 500, Zimdars had a time of 5:32.45 and in the 1000, she finished in 11:10.21.

Fellow senior Hanna Cederholm also had a pair of individual first place finishes. She won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.88) and the 200 yard IM (2:20.75). Cederholm also was a member of the winning 400 yard freestyle relay team. Cederholm along with sophomore Chris McFarland, senior Katy Kouvaris, and junior Ashton Klopp finished in a time of 3:42.89.

In the 400 yard medley relay, Findlay's team of junior Payton Zess, sophomore Kristina Coleman, Kouvaris, and senior Lauren Blanchard won with a time of 4:04.13.

McFarland did well individually as well, taking first place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.90. She also earned a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 55.32.

Kouvaris also secured a first place finish individually, winning the 100 yard butterfly with a 58.82.

Finishing in first in the 200 yard freestyle was junior Murphy Vance. She finished the race in a time of 2:03.14.

Zess finished in a time of 1:00.35 in the 100 yard backstroke which gave her a first place finish in that event.

Findlay is back in the pool at home tomorrow, Jan. 11 when they play host to the Tiffin Dragons. That event will begin at 1:00 pm.
