Oilers Sweep Tiffin/Ursuline in Double Dual Meet

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Tiffin University and Ursuline College on Saturday, January 11. The women's team defeated Ursuline 228 to 32, and defeated Tiffin 214 to 41. The men's team defeated Tiffin by the score of 161 to 100.

Women 

The women's 200 yard medley relay of senior Katy Kouvaris, senior Lauren Blanchard, senior Hannah Cedarholm, and senior Taylor Verbsky got first place with a time of 1:56.20. The D team of junior Sarah Miles, freshman Bojena Gross, sophomore Erin Butler, and freshman Rachel Poling placed second with a time of 1:58.93. 

Individually, Butler took first place in the 100 yard breastroke, clocking in at 1:13.87. Gross took second place with a time of 1:15.04. Butler also took first place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:37.67. 

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Kouvaris, Verbsky, senior Brittany Menzer, and senior Sydney Zimdars got first place with a time of 1:45.84. Junior Brette Klopp, junior Sarah Miles, junior Murphy Vance, and junior Payton Zess got second with a time of 1:49.03. 

In the 200 yard backstroke, Zimdars timed in at 2:18.37 for first place. Kouvaris got second with a time of 2:22.06. 

In the 100 yard backstroke, the Oilers had the top three finishers who were neck and neck with each other, including Zess, (1:02.40), Cedarholm, (1:02.56), and Kouvaris, (1:02.95). 

Individually, Cedarholm took first place in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:00.30. Also, Cedarholm zoomed across the finish line in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:48.34 to get first place. Senior Brittany Menzer clocked in at 6:17.38 for third place. 

The Oilers also had the top three finishers in the 100 yard freestyle, including sophomore Kristina Coleman, (55.78), junior Ashton Klopp, (56.23), and Poling, (57.18). Coleman also took first place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.80. Junior Brette Klopp placed second in the event with a time of 1:04.25.

Freshman Leah Vander Roest was a solo act in the one-meter dive, and had a score of 167.65. 

Ashton Klopp got first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:32.08. Sophomore Chris McFarland got second as she clocked in at 11:51.16. McFarland also placed first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:23.80. Sophomore Taylor Christensen got second place with a time of 2:29.91. 

Murphy Vance got second place in the 50 yard freestyle, clocking in at 26.63. 

In the 200 yard freestyle, Verbsky got second place with a time of 2:07.62. Senior Brittany Menzer placed fourth with a 2:19.26. 

Men

Freshman Timothy Stollings placed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.39. Senior Trent Williams, (22.20), and freshman Cole Condon, (23.08), placed second and third in the event, respectively. 

Stollings also got first place in the 200 yard backstroke, clocking in at 47.84. Freshman Colin Martin placed second, coming in at 48.08, and Williams placed third as he swam a time of 49.31.

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the Oilers took first place as freshman Jaeger Loran, Martin, Condon, and Stollings clocked in at 1:27.98. 

The 200 yard medley relay team of Loran, Martin, freshman Alex Wisler, and freshman Cole Condon got second place with a time of 1:37.49. 

Individually, Loran got first place in the 100 yard backstroke, clocking in at 52.72. Martin got first place in the 200 yard butterfly with a swim of 2:09.41. Loran also took first place in the 200 yard backstroke, zooming in at 1:56.02. Sophomore Paul Pavala was right behind Loran, coming in second place with a time of 1:57.48. 

Wisler took third place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 54:19. Condon took fourth place with a time of 55.14. 

In the 200 yard breastroke, sophomore Jared Toaz had a time of 2:17.12 to take first place, which was just enough to edge out junior Nathan Bourne who had a time of 2:17.86. 

Seniors Isaac Stretch and Adam Stretch placed second and third, respectively, in the 100 yard breaststroke with times of 59.12 for Isaac, and 1:00.51 for Adam. 

In the 1000 yard freestyle, senior Tucker Stocker took first place, clocking in at 11:17.78. Fellow Oiler Tyler Endecott, a sophomore, got second place as he swam a time of 11:18.77. Endecott also got second place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.87. 

Junior Dalton Shelvin was a solo act in both the one-meter diving contest and the three-meter diving contest. He finished the one-meter diving contest with a score of 291.55, and the three-meter diving contest with a score of 260.80. 

The Oilers will be back in action on Friday, January 17 as they will host Wayne St. The meet is set to start at 5:00 PM.
