Oilers Add More Gold Medals on Day Two of Conference Championships
Canton, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving team competed in day two of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) championships on Thursday, February 13.
Women
The women's 200 yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Chris McFarland, sophomore Kristina Coleman, senior Katy Kouvaris, and senior Hanna Cederholm eked out a conference championship in the event with a time of 1:35.40, beating out second place in just 0.27 seconds.
The 400 yard medley relay took gold easily with a time of 3:48.85, with the team consisting of junior Payton Zess, Cederholm, Kouvaris, and McFarland.
Cedarholm earned herself another gold medal in the 100 yard butterfly as she touched the wall at 56.17. Kouvaris took the silver medal with a time of 56.26, and McFarland took the bronze with a time of 56.83. Junior Ashton Klopp got on the podium as she took sixth place, coming in at 57.32.
Junior Brette Klopp secured a seventh place finish in the 400 yard IM as she clocked in at 4:47.30.
In the women's 200 yard freestyle, junior Sarah Miles paced her way en route an eighth place finish with a time of 1:57.66.
Men
Freshman Timothy Stollings earned himself another conference championship, a new school record, and a new meet record in the 100 yard butterfly as he came in at an unbelievable time of 46.53. This gives Stollings an automatic bid to the NCAA championships in the event. Freshman Colin Martin took the bronze, coming in at 51.01. Right behind was freshman Alex Wisler, who took fourth place at 51.61. And adding another podium finish was freshman Cole Condon who finished with a time of 52.07.
The 400 yard medley relay team of junior Paul Pavala, senior Isaac Stretch, Stollings, and Martin broke a new school record, while also taking gold in the event, as they zoomed in at a time of 3:17.54.
The men's 200 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Martin, Stollings, Stretch, and senior Trent Williams broke the meet record as they finished in a blazing time of 1:22.09 to secure the gold. The old meet record was held by the Oilers relay team in 2018.
Williams added a bronze medal to his collection in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing at a time of 1:42.45. Junior Nathan Bourne earned fifth place with a time of 1:43.62.
In the 400 IM, sophomore Jared Toaz took the silver as he touched the wall with a time of 4:06.34. Pavala was right behind Toaz as he took bronze with a time of 4:07.96.
The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow on Friday, February 14 to compete in day three of the conference championship.
