SR- School Record

SB- Season Best

CB- Career Best

Highlighting the day was freshman Matteo Fillipi who broke the program record in the 1000 freestyle. Fillipi's time of 9:23.84 bested the previous record of 9:31.43 set by Ben Rath by nearly eight seconds. In fact, Rath was in attendance at the meet today.

Quote from Coach Andrew Makepeace

"We knew the Cards were going to be a difficult challenge after seeing some of their early season results and being nationally ranked on the men's side and getting top 25 buzz from their women's team. It came down to the wire last year and we wanted to show them what competing at the Sink feels like. Our ladies came out hot and kept it rolling all afternoon. We pride ourselves in winning that first relay and getting mojo flowing, so that was the plan all along. Winning events is the key to being victorious in a dual meet and we won our share early with Emily and Troie. Macy May, Emily Mears-Bentley, and Sasha Melnyk helped keep us on track in between the diving events. What really slammed the door shut was our 1-2 breaststroke punch of Katie Susi and Rachel Poling. That tied the meet. We knew we had a lock on the last relay as our sprint freestyle group is deep and fast. They put the nail in the coffin with some great relay swims in the 2 Free relay to finish.

Our men were dominant from the start. We knew there were points to make up going down 26 due to their strong diving squad. So we made them up early and never let go. The big surprise was Matteo Filippi breaking Ben Rath's record in the 1000. That was a fun race to watch and Rafa Lozano helped add to our total with a second place finish. Camilo and Daniel gave us some fire power in their events today with 2 B cuts each. Our backstrokers had a nice race against some of the best in the region despite falling short. Tim proved again why he's one of the best in the nation across all divisions in Butterfly. Overall, these guys show why they are so highly ranked in the nation. Our staff cannot wait to see what's in store against some of our old GLIAC rivals we have never beaten in a dual meet. Exciting times ahead."

The Oilers will be back in action Nov. 4th and 5th as they travel to Detroit, Mich. to face Northern Michigan University and Wayne State University.
