Oilers Break Records on Day 1 of G-MAC Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's track teams completed the first day of competitions at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Indoor Championships on February 22 in Findlay, Ohio. 

Men

Senior Austin Combs earned first place in the men's weight throw with a provisional qualifying throw of 20.59m (67-06.75). Junior Eldred Henry took fourth in the event with a 19.56m (64-02.25) provisional qualifying throw, while senior Dequan Lovell placed fifth with a provisional qualifying distance of 19.08m (62-07.25).

Sophomore Martin Etsey placed third in the men's long jump. His 7.27m (23-10.25) jump beat the previous G-MAC record of 7.22m held by Findlay's Trey Everett. He now holds the record for third longest jump in G-MAC history.

Junior Lenell Shelby III hit a provisional qualifying mark in the men's 60 meter hurdles prelims with a time of 8.19. Shelby also earned the new meet record in the men's 200 meter dash prelims with a time of 22.17. He qualified to race in the finals for finals for both events tomorrow.

In the men's 400 meter dash prelims, freshman Xavier Marable earn the new meet record with a time of 48.31. He will race in the finals tomorrow.  

Women

Freshman Gabrielle Lawrence placed fourth in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 18:15.00.

In the women's weight throw, junior Hannah Hahler earned third place with her 16.35m (53-07.75) throw.

Junior Jenna Shipman took fifth in the women's long jump with a height of 5.38m (17-08.00).

In the women's 200 meter dash prelims, junior Semoy Hemmings hit a provisional qualifying mark with her time of 25.20. She will move on to the finals tomorrow.

The Findlay women placed fourth in the women's distance medley. Freshman Hayley Robinett, freshman Mikaely Pean, junior Aubreah Manns, and senior Torrie Purdy collectively ran a 12:55.125.
