England & Mungro Set Records at GVSU

The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field teams competed in Allendale, Mich. on Feb. 19 at the Grand Valley State Tune-Up. The Oilers set several records and recorded six first place finishes at the event.

On the women's side, sophomore Morgan England set a new school and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) record in the pole vault as she finished second after clearing 13'07.75, which was an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark. The mark is also the fourth-best among all NCAA Division II pole vaulters this season. Junior Meadow Cromer and sophomore Lindsey Kluesener reached a height of 12'10.00 in the pole vault to finish fourth and sixth, respectively, which was good enough to reach the provisional status in the event as well.

Junior Brooke Mangas recorded a first place finish in the high jump with a provisional leap of 5'08.00 while sophomore Alexa Fries finished third in the same event at 5'05.00.

The Oilers 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Cassidy Baran, senior Jenna Shipman, freshman Hannah Rybicki, and sophomore Bethany Smith took first place in their event with a time of 3:56.62 while Jordan Taylor scored a pair of second place finishes in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. She finished with a time of 7.93 in the 60 and crossed the finish line in 25.86 during the 200.

Sophomore Simone Green finished as the runner-up in the long jump at 18'01.00 while freshman Madison Myers was third in the event at 17'09.75. Sophomore Paige Emnett also scored a pair of third place finishes in the weight throw and shot put. She finished with a mark of 52'01.25 in the weight throw and had a heave of 43'07.25 in the shot put.

On the men's side, junior Sterling Mungro won the weight throw with a G-MAC record-breaking toss of 71'04.00, which is the second-best in NCAA Division II this season and an automatic qualifying mark. He also took fourth in the shot put at 53'08.50.

Freshman Gabriel Foster raced to a provisional time in the 800-meter run at 1:52.89 to reach the provisional while sophomore Josh Verhoff was first in the 200-meter dash at 21.73. Junior Ethan Pensante was third in the 200 as well after crossing the finish line in 22.57.

Freshman Aaron Cooper won the high jump with a mark of 6'04.75 while senior Gabe Makin was second in the pole vault at 16'01.25.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Feb. 26-27 in Cedarville, Ohio for the G-MAC Championship.
