Oilers in 1st After Day 1 of G-MAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up day one of the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship on Feb. 26 in Cedarville, Ohio. The Oilers 11th-ranked men's team leads the event with 41 points while the women's 20th-ranked team is in first with 82 points.

On the men's side, junior Sterling Mungro captured a league championship in the weight throw with a NCAA provisional toss of 20.92 meters while freshman Noah Fisher finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a school record-breaking time of 14:51.33.

Senior Martin Etsey claimed a runner-up finish in the long jump at 6.89 meters while freshman Brad Korte took fourth in the same event at 6.65 meters. Junior Max Prenger finished fifth in the weight throw at 17.40 meters as well.

In the preliminary rounds, sophomore Josh Verhoff recorded the fastest time in the 200-meter dash at 22.02 while junior Xavier Marable was right behind in second at 22.32. Marable also finished second in the 400-meter dash prelims at 50.05 and third in the 60-meter prelims at 6.99.

In the heptathlon, sophomore Keandre Marlow leads the event with 2,812 points while sophomore Chris Cooper is third with 2,627 points. That event will finish up tomorrow.

On the women's side, sophomore Morgan England won the pole vault with a NCAA automatic qualifying height of 4.10 meters while sophomore Lindsey Kluesener finished as the runner-up with a provisional qualifying mark of 3.82 meters. Freshman Jessica Break was fifth in the event as well at 3.52 meters.

Sophomore Paige Emnett won the weight throw with a heave of 17.09 meters while sophomore Brynlee Hanneman (15.16) and freshman Kelsey Kennon (15.04) finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

Junior Gabrielle Lawrence finished first in the 5,000-meter run with a school record-breaking time of 17:28.69 while sophomore Carlee Siefker (2,908) and freshman Maddie Alexander (2,905) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pentathlon.

Sophomore Simone Green scored a runner-up finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters while freshman Madison Myers was third in the event at 5.59 meters.

In the preliminary rounds, sophomore Bethany Smith took second in the 400-meter dash at 58.86 while senior Jenna Shipman was fourth at 49.75. Freshman Jordan Taylor also advanced to the finals by taking third in the opening round of the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.87.

The event will conclude tomorrow.
