The University of Findlay track and field program had a great start to the 2021 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship as junior Sterling Mungro won a national title in the weight throw with a school record-breaking heave of 22.45 meters (73'08.00).

Mungro, who now has the fifth-longest weight throw toss in NCAA Division II history, was almost a meter better than Angelo State's Decio Andrade, who finished second at 21.77. His throw at the championship also broke his own Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) record.

The Oilers have now won five out of the last seven national titles on the men's side in the weight throw. Austin Combs won in 2018 and 2019 while Justin Welch captured titles in 2014 and 2015.

An All-American in the event last year, Mungro has the Oilers men's squad in first place after day one with ten points.

Day two of the championship meet will take place tomorrow.
