Oilers in First After Day One of G-MAC Championship | Four Champions Crowned

Owensboro, Ky. - The University of Findlay track and field team completed day one of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship yesterday, May 4. The Oilers find themselves atop the team standings on both the men's and women's side. 

 

Women

On the field, the Oilers were once again led by the dominance of the pole vault team who took three of the top four spots on the leaderboard. Taking the top honors at the event was senior all-American, Savannah Amato. Amato cleared a distance of 4.14m (13'7.00") to claim her sixth straight victory this season and a back-to-back league title in the event. Following Amato was fellow junior Lindsey Kluesener who cleared 3.94m to take third in the event. Senior Meadow Cromer finished tied for fourth after clearing a height of 3.69m (12'1.25"). Amato, Kluesener, and Cromer met the NCAA provisional mark.

Continuing on the field, junior Paige Emnett took second in the hammer throw. Her distance of 54.78m (179'8.00") was just short of the top spot. This met the NCAA provisional mark. 

Competing for the Oilers in the heptathlon is freshman Kassandra Stine, sophomore Maddie Alexander, and junior Carlee Siefker. In the heptathlon high jump, Stine and Alexander finished tied for third, clearing a height of 1.56m (5'1.25"). In the heptathlon shot put, Siefker took the honors with a throw of 10.68m (35'0.50") to edge out Ahsland's Emma Liberatore by 0.15m. Finishing fifth in the same event was Stine who threw a distance of 9.60m (31'6.00"). In the heptathlon 100m hurdles, Kassandra Stine took second place with a time of 15.51 seconds. Stine then finished third in the heptathlon 200m dash with a time of 27.23 seconds.  

On the track, the Oilers were led by senior Hannah Thompson in the 10K run. Thompson, who has broken numerous program records this season, continues with her stellar performance to take the honors with a time of 34:47.21. Her time meets the NCAA provisional mark.


Men

On the field, the Oilers were led by senior standout and 2021 NCAA DII Champion, Austin Combs who took the honors in the hammer throw. His distance of 68.51m (224'9.00") was his best this season and the top mark in the conference. He edged out Ashland's Brent Fairbanks by 5.33m. This is Comb's third Great Midwest title in the hammer throw. Also in the hammer throw was senior Max Pregner who took fourth with a distance of 57.55m (188'9.00"). Both Combs and Pregner's throws meet NCAA provisional marks. 

Competing in the decathlon for the Oilers is freshman Gabe Clement. Clement took fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.65 seconds. He came in second in the long jump, clearing a distance of 6.29m (20'7.75"). He finished fourth in the shot put before finishing first in the high jump with a 1.94m (6'4.25") clearance. 

On the track, sophomore Noah Fisher took the honors in the 10K run with a time of 29:48.35. His time meets the NCAA provisional mark. Fisher was last year's 5K and 10K champion as well as the cross country champion and continued to hold serve last night. 

 

The Oilers will be back in action today, May 5 for the second day of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships.
