Oilers Route Fighting Scots
Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team earned its second-biggest win of the season on Thursday, Feb. 15 in Croy Gymnasium, cruising to a 96-56 victory over Ohio Valley. The win gives Findlay a 19-6 record on the year with a 16-5 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, the most wins in the league. Ohio Valley, the only winless team in the country this year, falls to 0-23 overall and 0-19 in conference play.
Findlay's highest scoring game of the season began with a first quarter in which the Oilers doubled-up the Fighting Scots, outscoring the visiting team 22-11. By halftime the lead was up to 48-29 and the Oilers easily rode that wave of momentum to a 40-point victory.
The Oilers outshot the undermanned Fight Scots 48.8% (39-for-80) to 37.3% (22-for-59). The 39 makes and 80 shots for Findlay are both the most in a game this season. The attempts were four shy of the school record.
Findlay held a massive advantage on the boards, grabbing a season-high 51 boards to just 31 for OVU.
Senior Lynsey Englebrecht had a monster game as she scored a career-high 29 points on 10-of-17 from the field. Her makes and attempts were both career-highs. The Oilers sharpshooter also nailed eight shots from beyond the three-point line, tying her own school record for made threes in a game. She has made 207 threes in her time at Findlay and passed Maggie Gompers, who made 206 threes from 2007-10, for third. Englebrecht also had six assists and three steals to round out the stat sheet.
Putting together another big game was Findlay junior Anna Hintz, who recorded her 14th career double-double. She scored 25 points on 11-of-13 from the floor. The 11 makes are a career-high and are the most by a Findlay player in a game this season. Hintz also corralled a team-high 12 rebounds, nine of which came on the defensive glass.
Senior Haley Horstman chipped in 14 points on 6-of-11 from the field including a pair of makes from deep. She also had six assists and led the team on the defensive end, picking up four steals.
Junior Allie Thobe tied a career-high with five assists while junior Jenna Stegmaier had four assists and a pair of steals. Junior Dana Fricke scored six points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench while junior Elissa Ellerbrock recorded five points, six rebounds, and two assists. Sophomore Shelby Kin tallied six points off the pine, as well.
Findlay will have their longest inactive stretch of the season as they will wait nine days before they take on Hillsdale on Feb. 24 in Croy. It will be the final game of the regular season for Findlay, who is still in contention for the regular season conference championship.
