Oilers Fall Short in Title Game

The University of Findlay women's basketball team fell 81-70 in the championship game of the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) to Hillsdale College on March 3 in Cedarville, Ohio. The loss gives the Oilers a 22-7 record on the year.

The Oilers held a 35-34 lead at the break and trailed after three quarters of play by one point at 49-48. The Chargers then put together a great fourth quarter as they outscored the Oilers 32-22 to take the title.

Findlay shot 37.3 percent (28-of-75) from the floor while Hillsdale connected on 50 percent (30-of-60) of their shot attempts. The Chargers also held a 44-38 advantage on the boards in the game.

Senior guard Haley Horstman paced the Oilers with 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting. She also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Junior forward Anna Hintz added 16 points and seven rebounds while senior guard Lynsey Englebrecht chipped in 13 points and three assists.

Senior guard Emily Molnar came off the bench to provide seven points, three rebounds and a pair of assists while senior guard Kendyl Hinton had six points and two steals.

The Chargers were led by Brittany Gray's 22 points.

The Oilers will now wait to see if they qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Oilers were ranked eighth in the latest Midwest Region poll and are looking to make their first appearance in the Big Dance since the 2012-13 campaign. The selection show will air live on NCAA.com at 10pm tomorrow night.
