Oilers Comeback Falls Short Against Walsh

The University of Findlay women's basketball team battled back from a double digit deficit in the fourth quarter but came up just short in the end as they fell 70-66 to Walsh University on Dec. 6 in Croy Gymnasium. The loss gives the Oilers a 3-2 record on the season with a 1-2 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers trailed by 11 at 64-53 with three minutes to play in the game and cut the Cavaliers lead to only two at 68-66 with 17 ticks remaining on a layup by senior forward Anna Hintz. The Cavaliers then made 2-of-4 attempts from the free throw line down the stretch to pull out the win.

Findlay shot 40.3 percent (27-of-67) from the floor and held the Cavaliers to a 35.7 percent (20-of-56) shooting clip in the game. The Cavaliers outrebounded the Oilers 50-38 however and grabbed 18 offensive boards which led to 24 second chance points.

Hintz led the Oilers with 14 points and six rebounds while senior guards Allie Thobe and Elissa Ellerbrock had nine points apiece.

Freshman guard Amber Schweiger came off the bench to provide seven points while senior guard Lauren Ruth and freshman center Sydney Kin had six points apiece.

Quionche Carter led Walsh with 24 points and nine rebounds.

The Oilers will be back at home on Saturday to host Malone University at 1pm.
