Oilers in Tune in the Music City | Cruise Past Trevecca 79-53
Nashville, Tenn. – After a rough first quarter, the Oilers fired on all cylinders for the final 30 minutes and cruise to a 79-53 road victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday, Jan. 24 in Nashville, Tennessee. With the victory the Oilers improve to 13-4 on the season with a 9-3 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Trojans fall to 6-11 and 5-6 in the league.
In the first ten minutes of action, Findlay made just 4-of-14 from the field including 1-of-6 from beyond the arc and turned the ball over five times. By the end of the quarter the Oilers found themselves trailing 15-12.
Trailing by five midway through the second quarter, Anna Hintz and Elissa Ellerbrock hit back-to-back triples to give the Oilers a 21-20 lead with 4:50 remaining in the half. Of the team's 17 points in the second quarter, Hintz and Ellerbrock combined for 12 as the Orange and Black took a five point advantage into the break.
As the second half opened, TNU did manage to tie the game at 33, but Findlay they found their rhythm in the Music City as they outscored the overmatched Trojans 46-20 in the final 17 minutes to secure their 13th win of the season.
Findlay outshot Trevecca in the contest as the Oilers made 48% of their shots from the field while holding the home squad to a shooting percentage of just 33%. The Oilers also held a 44-35 advantage on the boards and, after five in the first quarter, finished with just 12 turnovers in the game while forcing 16.
Senior Anna Hintz returned to form after a rough outing against Hillsdale last Saturday as she had game-highs with 22 points and ten rebounds to secure her ninth double-double of the year. Hintz also had four assists, a steal, and a block.
Senior Jenna Stegmaier chipped in with a season-best 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting that including a pair of threes. She also drained 5-of-7 from the charity stripe. Stegmaier also had two steals, a block, and an assist.
Findlay's final double-digit performer was senior Elissa Ellerbrock who scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Coming off the bench, senior Jaclyn Heath scored a career-high with seven points. She also grabbed four rebounds while freshman Sydney Kin and senior Allie Thobe each scored six points. Kin added six rebounds, a steal, and a block while Thobe had five rebounds and five assists.
Findlay will be back on the court when they head to Owensboro, Ky. to take on the 14-3 Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. That game will tip off at 1:00 pm EST.
