Oilers Knock Off Cedarville 73-64

The University of Findlay women's basketball team knocked off the top team in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) on Jan. 31 as they defeated Cedarville University 73-64 in the Croy Physical Education Center. The win gives the Oilers a 14-5 record on the year.

The Oilers built a 27-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and then watched the Yellow Jackets slowly chip away at their lead. The Oilers however withstood Cedarville's rally to improve to 10-4 on the season in the league.

Findlay shot 54.2 percent (26-of-48) from the floor and held a 34-16 advantage in paint points. Cedarville meanwhile made 40.0 percent (24-of-60) of their shot attempts, which included a 10-of-33 (30.3%) showing from three point range.

Senior forward Anna Hintz paced the Oilers with 20 points and nine rebounds. She made 7-of-11 attempts from the field and also chipped in three assists and two blocks.

Senior guard Elissa Ellerbrock had 16 points, four rebounds and four assists while senior guard Jenna Stegmaier had 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

Senior guard Allie Thobe also reached double figures with ten points to go along with three rebounds, three assists and a steal, while senior center Christa Puthoff contributed eight points on 3-of-4 shooting.

The Yellow Jackets, who fell to 16-4 on the season with a 12-2 record in league play, were led by Baylee Bennett's 17 points.

The Oilers will be back in Croy on Saturday to host Tiffin University at 1:00 p.m. in their annual Make-A-Wish game.
