Early Lead Not Enough in Columbus | Oilers Fall to Panthers
Columbus, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped their second contest of the season against Ohio Dominican University on Thursday, Feb. 21 with a 67-65 defeat in Columbus. With the loss the Oilers fall to 17-7 overall with a 13-6 mark in the league while the Panthers improve to 14-12 and 11-9 in the league, improving their chances of earning a spot in the conference tournament.
Just over three minutes into the contest the Oilers opened up a 10-3 lead on the home team and ultimately took a 13-11 lead into the second quarter. Findlay extended the lead by a point through two quarters as they took a 33-30 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter belonged to the Panthers, however, as the home team outscored Findlay 21-16 in the third frame to take control of a game that featured eight ties and 12 lead changes.
Ohio Dominican outshot the Oilers, making 40% of their tries from the floor to just 31.6% for Findlay. The difference in the game was from deep. The Panthers canned 12-of-25 from beyond the arc for 48% while Findlay hit just 5-of-29 from range.
Senior Anna Hintz led the way with 26 points on 10-of-22 from the floor including three shots made from deep. She also snagged six rebounds and had two steals.
Findlay's top performance came from senior Allie Thobe who scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds. She also had three steals and an assist.
Senior Elissa Ellerbrock scored five points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Christa Puthoff had eight points and also had 12 rebounds.
Findlay will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on Ohio Valley.
