Oilers Knock Off Panthers | Win 75-71

The University of Findlay women's basketball team knocked off Kentucky Wesleyan College by a score of 75-71 on Feb. 28 in the Croy Physical Education Center. The victory over the top-ranked team in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) gives the Oilers a 19-7 record on the year with a 15-6 mark in league play.

The Oilers trailed 71-69 with just over a minute to play and tied the game on a driving layup by senior forward Anna Hintz. Hintz then splashed a pair of free throw attempts with only 38 seconds remaining to put Findlay up two at 73-71. Freshman forward Bridget Landin then split a pair after a big defensive stop for the final margin of the game.

The Oilers shot 51.0 percent (26-of-51) from the floor in the win and made 18-of-22 (81.8%) tries from the charity stripe. They also came away with five steals and blocked five shots in the game.

Hintz paced the Oilers with 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists while senior guard Elissa Ellerbrock had 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Senior guards Jenna Stegmaier and Allie Thobe each recorded nine points while senior center Christa Puthoff had eight points and five rebounds.

Landin came off the bench to provide a spark with seven points and two rebounds.

The Panthers, who are now 21-6 on the year, were led by Emma Johnson's 19 points.

The Oilers will close their regular season on Saturday when they play Trevecca Nazarene University at 1pm.
