Box Score

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team used a big third quarter to secure their second win of the season on Sunday, Nov. 10 in Niekamp Arena by defeating the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals by a score of 62-59. The win gives the Oilers a 2-0 record to start a season for the second consecutive year while the Cardinals fall to 1-1 on the young season.

The Oilers stumbled a bit out of the gate and found themselves trailing by seven through the first quarter of action. Both teams then struggled in the second, combined to shoot just 6-of-31 from the floor. Findlay did cut into the lead as they outscored Saginaw Valley 8-to-6 in the quarter and trailed by five, 26-21, heading into halftime.

Trailing 41-35 with four minutes to play in the third quarter, the Oilers offense exploded as they went on a 15-4 run to close out the quarter and take a five-point lead heading into the final ten minutes. Of Findlay's 29 points scored in the third, sophomore Bridget Landin, whose previous career-high in a game was ten points, contributed 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including a pair of triples. Senior guard Lauren Ruth, who finished with nine points in the game, also had a big quarter, scoring seven points in the quarter.

The Oilers held their largest lead in the fourth quarter, a ten-point advantage with six minutes to play in the game. Saginaw Valley would claw their way back into the game to pull within three with 2:21 on the clock, but neither team scored the remainder of the game and Findlay celebrated a three-point victory.

Landin had a monster game as she recorded her first career double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing ten rebounds, both career-highs. She also had a career-best four steals in the game.

Not to be outdone, fellow sophomore Sydney Kin posted her first double-double in a Findlay uniform, as well. The Carey, Ohio native scored 13 points and had a team-high 11 rebounds, both of which set new career-highs.

Sophomore guard Amber Schweiger also posted a career-high with ten points scored on 5-of-11 from the floor. She also had a career-high with six assists in the win while senior Lauren Ruth scored nine points and had three rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore Paige Bellman, fresh off a double-double in her Findlay debut two days ago, scored six points and had six rebounds while freshman Elizabeth Flynn scored four points and grabbed five rebounds.

Findlay will face a tall test this Thursday, Nov. 14 when they hit the road for the first time this season to take on no. 8 Ashland University. That game will tip-off at 5:30 pm.
