Oilers Stumble at #8 Ashland

Ashland, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team took on the no. 8 Ashland on the road on Thursday, Nov. 14 and, despite outscoring the Eagles in the final quarter, lost by a score of 108-59. With the loss the Oilers fall to 2-1 on the year while Ashland stays perfect, improving to 3-0.

The Eagles flexed their muscle in what was their home opener, taking a 61-20 lead into halftime and cruising through the second half to a 49-point victory. Findlay struggled shooting in the game as they made just 21-of-57 from the floor while Ashland hit 43-of-75 including torching the Oilers from beyond the arc, draining 15-of-28 (.536).

Findlay was outrebounded 41-to-30 in the game and committed 29 turnovers.

Coming off the bench, freshman Serena Sammarone led the Oilers in scoring with ten points on a 4-of-9 effort from the floor. She had two assists in the game and committed nine turnovers.

Findlay's two sophomore post players Sydney Kin and Bridget Landin, who each had double-doubles in their last game against Saginaw Valley St., both scored nine points in the contest. Kin secured eight rebounds and had two assists while Landin had four boards.

The Oilers will return home on Saturday, Nov. 16 when they host Division III Defiance College in Niekamp Arena. That game will begin at 3:00 pm.
