Early Lead Slips Away at #3 Grand Valley State

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The University of Findlay women's basketball team took on the no. 3 ranked team in the country on Sunday, Nov. 24 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Oilers battled Grand Valley State and fell by a score of 88-63, dropping Findlay's record of 3-4. The Lakers improved to 5-0.

Playing their second top-ten team of the year, Findlay hung with Grand Valley early and held a 12-9 lead through eight minutes of play.

Midway through the second quarter, GVSU held just a 26-24 lead, but then went on a 9-0 run to extend that lead to double digits. Findlay could not get the score back within ten for the remainder of the game as the Lakers, who are coming off of a 49-point win against Hillsdale College, went on to a 25-point victory, the fourth time in five games that the Blue and White have won by at least 20 points.

Grand Valley was on fire from the floor, making more than 50% (34-of-66) of their attempts from the field while the Oilers managed to shoot 36% (23-of-64). The Lakers also held a big advantage on the boards, grabbing 38 rebounds to just 26 for the Oilers.

The sophomore trio of Amber Schweiger, Sydney Kin, and Bridget Landin each scored in double-figures and combined for 43 of the team's 63 points. Schweiger led the way with 17 while Kin chipped in 14 and Landin scored 12. Kin and Landin each had seven rebounds in the game while Schweiger led the squad with three assists.

Sophomore Paige Bellman scored six points and recorded a team-high eight rebounds.

Findlay will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 5 when they open up conference play with the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots.
