Oilers Lead from Wire-to-Wire in Win at Alderson Broaddus
Philippi, West Va. – The University of Findlay women's basketball team made it back-to-back wins to open up Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Saturday, Dec. 7, picking up a 58-44 victory on the road against Alderson Broaddus. With the win, the Oilers are back to .500 on the year with a 4-4 record and have a 2-0 mark in league play.
The Oilers, who have not trailed in conference play yet this season, jumped out to a 15-5 lead through nine minutes of play and held that point margin, leading 33-23 at the half.
Despite being outscored in the third quarter, Findlay never let the game get closer than nine points as they extended their lead and ultimately earned a 14-point win.
Findlay made 21-of-56 (.375) from the floor while the Battlers hit 18-of-56 (.321). The Oilers held a big advantage on the boards, grabbing 44 rebounds to just 32 for Alderson Broaddus.
Sophomore Paige Bellman, who earned the start in today's game, led Findlay with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She also grabbed eight rebounds, which was second on the squad.
Sophomore Sydney Kin came off the bench to score 11 points while senior Lauren Ruth poured in 11, as well. Ruth made a team-high three triples in four tries while Kin grabbed seven boards.
Four of Findlay's starters finished with three assists, apiece. Those included Amber Schweiger, Bridget Landin, Elizabeth Flynn, and Bellman.
Findlay's leader on the glass was Landin who had 11 rebounds.
The Oilers are back in action next week when they hit the road to play Hillsdale. That game will begin at 1:00 pm.
