Oilers Fall to #14 Walsh in Croy

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team took on conference-leading Walsh for the second time in seven days on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers trailed by just one through the first ten minutes, but the 14th ranked Cavaliers would go on to win 96-79 to improve their record to 19-2 overall and a perfect 12-0 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. With the loss, Findlay falls to 11-10 overall and 7-4 in the league.

The contest featured seven ties and nine lead changes, all of which took place in the first quarter.

Walsh connected on 35-of-68 from the floor for 52 percent shooting while the Oilers made 26-of-59 for 44 percent. The Cavs used three point shooting to their advantage, making 48 percent of their shots from deep and making 11 triples. Findlay made just one shot from beyond the arc on 11 attempts.

Sophomore Sydney Kin scored 22 points to lead the Orange and Black. She also was a force on the glass, grabbing a career-high 18 rebounds to collect the double-double. Freshman Serena Sammarone scored a career-high 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting including 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. She also had three steals.

Sophomore Bridget Landin scored 13 points and had five rebounds while sophomore Amber Schweiger scored ten points, had two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Sophomore Paige Bellman led the Oilers with five assists in the game.

Walsh was led in scoring by Quionche Carter who made 10-of-15 from the floor for 25 points.

Findlay looks to rebound on the road with a tough test this coming week. The Oilers will return to action Thursday, Feb. 6 when they will take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in Owensboro, Ky. That game will tip off at 5:30 pm EST.
