Landin's Near Triple-Double Lifts Oilers Past Panthers
Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team picked up an important conference win on Thursday, Feb. 13 in Croy Gymnasium in Findlay, Ohio as they took down the Ohio Dominican Panthers by a score of 74-63. The win gives the Oilers, who entered the night fourth in the league standings, a record of 13-11 overall with a 9-5 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). ODU falls to 14-11 on the season with a 9-6 mark in conference play.
The first quarter went well for Findlay as they shot 50 percent while holding the Panthers to just 21 percent. Findlay led 15-7 through ten minutes. The script flipped in the second quarter, but the Oilers did take a 28-27 lead into the half.
Findlay opened the second half on a 14-2 run to take command of the game and would go on to earn an 11-point victory.
The Oilers shot 48 percent for the game including 39 percent from beyond the three point line while ODU connected on just 30 percent of their shots. Findlay also held an advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Panthers 41-36.
As has been the case all season, Findlay made the most of their opportunities in the paint. 42 of the Oilers' 74 points came from in close.
Sophomore Sydney Kin was the team's leading scorer as she dropped 22 points, the third time in four games she has eclipsed the 20-point mark. She was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line and hit 8-of-15 from the field. Kin also had 11 rebounds to earn her fifth double-double of the season.
Sophomore Bridget Landin nearly had a triple-double in the game as she scored 14 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and dished out a career-high eight assists. For good measure, Landin added a pair of steals and two blocks to round out one of the best performances of her young career.
Sophomore Paige Bellman and senior Lauren Ruth scored 13 and 10 points, respectively. Bellman hit 6-of-10 from the floor while Ruth made 4-of-10 including a pair of triples.
Sophomore Amber Schweiger scored nine points in the game, but more impressively, she picked up a career-high 11 assists. It is the first time an Oilers player has had at least ten assists in a game since Ashley Andrews had ten in a game against Wheeling Jesuit in the 2009-10 season.
The Oilers are back in action on Saturday when they take on the Tiffin Dragons. That game will tip off in Croy at 1:00 pm.
