Oilers Take Down Dragons at Home for Third Straight Win

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team built a lead on Saturday, Feb. 15 and hung on to defeat the Tiffin Dragons by a score of 76-66. The home victory gives the Oilers a 14-11 record with a 10-5 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while Tiffin falls to 11-15 and 6-10 in the conference.

The Oilers had a three-point lead through ten minutes and later took a six-point lead into the break. In the third quarter, Findlay built their largest lead of the game when sophomore Lilly Simon made a pair of free throws to give the home team a 13-point advantage.

Tiffin would not go quietly, clawing their way back to within just two points at 62-60 with just under three minutes to play. A layup from sophomore Sydney Kin extended that lead to four and, after a free throw by Tiffin, senior Lauren Ruth hit the biggest shot of the game, a three-pointer from in front of the Oilers bench, to give Findlay a six-point advantage with less than two minutes left.

Findlay scored their last nine points from the free-throw line as they went on to secure the victory and maintain their position among the league's top four teams.

The Oilers made 51 percent of their shots from the floor (25-of-49) and were on fire from the charity stripe, making 24-of-27 for 89 percent.

Sydney Kin led Findlay with 22 points in the game on 10-of-16 from the floor. She grabbed eight rebounds and had a pair of blocks in the game, as well.

Sophomore Bridget Landin made it back-to-back double-doubles as she put up 12 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists on Saturday.

Sophomore Amber Schweiger and senior Lauren Ruth each scored double-figures, contributing 13 and 12 points respectively. Both players had five rebounds while Schweiger picked up five assists and led the team with four steals.

Off the bench, freshman Elizabeth Flynn scored nine points on 4-of-5 from the field and picked up a pair of assist, as well.

The Oilers travel to Lake Erie on Saturday, Feb. 22 to take on the Storm. That game will tip at 1:00 pm.
