Fourth Quarter Surge Leads Oilers to Road Win Against Cedarville

Cedarville, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team picked up a hard-fought win on Wednesday, Feb. 26 on the road against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets by a final score of 64-56. The win the Findlay's fifth in a row and brings their record to 16-11 overall and 12-5 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play with just one game remaining. Cedarville falls to 19-7 with the loss and 12-5 in the G-MAC to pull even with the Oilers in the standings, although Findlay does own wins in both of their matchups this season.

Trailing by seven entering the final frame, the visiting Orange and Black would outscore Cedarville 19-4 over the last ten minutes to overcome the deficit and secure the win. In that quarter, Findlay's defense turned up the pressure, forcing the Yellow Jackets into five turnovers and a shooting percentage of just 12.5-percent (2-of-16) while the offense hit 7-of-14 from the floor for 50-percent.

For the game, the Oilers hit 51-percent while allowing just 31-percent for the Yellow Jackets. Cedarville did manage to make 12 three-point tries to keep the game close, but those 12 makes came on an eye-popping 43 attempts from deep.

Findlay connected on 17-of-18 from the charity stripe (94.4%) while Cedarville made just two of their our attempts and, despite turning the ball over more than the Yellow Jackets, the Oilers held a slight advantage with 14 points-off-turnovers to just 12 for the home squad.

As the regular season comes to a close, sophomore Sydney Kin left no doubt as to who was the most reliable player on the floor. Kin scored 23 points in the win, her fifth consecutive 20-point performance, while making 7-of-10 from the floor and hitting on all nine of her free-throw attempts. Kin also finished with a game-high 11 rebounds to pick up the double-double, her seventh of the season. For good measure, the Carey, Ohio native tied a career-high with four blocked shots.

Sophomore Amber Schweiger had another solid game as she scored in double-figures for the seventh time in eight games with a 16-point performance on Wednesday night. Schweiger also led the team with five assists and chipped in three rebounds, as well.

Fellow sophomore Bridget Landin chipped in with her usual well-rounded performance, scoring 15 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and collecting a team-high two steals.

Freshman Elizabeth Flynn and sophomore Paige Bellman each scored four points in the game while senior Lauren Ruth hit one of the biggest buckets of the game, a two-point jumper in the closing seconds to ice the game. Those were Ruth's only two points of the game.

The Oilers are home on Saturday, Feb. 29 when they will take on Hillsdale College in the final regular season game of the year. That game will tip at 1:00 pm.
