Third Quarter Leaves Oilers Stunned | Lose to KWC

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team welcomed Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opponent Kentucky Wesleyan to Croy Gymnasium on Jan. 12. After a dominant third quarter by the Panthers, the Oilers fell by a score of 78-54. With the loss, Findlay falls to 4-12 on the season and 1-7 in G-MAC play. Meanwhile Kentucky Wesleyan improves to 11-4 and 7-1 in the conference.

Despite leading midway through the first quarter, the Oilers trailed by three at the end of the first quarter. That deficit continued to grow, reaching seven at the half.

The third quarter wreaked havoc for the Oilers as the Panthers opened the half with a 16-0 run. Findlay remained scoreless for nearly seven minutes in the third quarter, in which the Panthers would build a 51-28 lead. Kentucky Wesleyan would continue to expand their lead, taking their largest at 78-48 with three minutes remaining in the contest. The Oilers were never able to overcome the Panther's impressive performance.

Findlay hit 21-of-46 (.435) from the floor including 5-of-14 (.357) from deep while Kentucky Wesleyan made an impressive 31-of-52 (.596) and 6-of-16 (.375) from beyond the arc. 

The Panthers were intentional about getting the ball down low, scoring 50 of their points in the paint to the Oilers' 20. One key difference between the teams was turnovers. The Oilers, who have had issues protecting the ball all season, recorded 18 turnovers which led to 24 points for the Panthers. 

Junior Kate Ellis led the way with 10 points, hitting 3-of-6 from the floor, including 1-of-3 from three. She also grabbed two rebounds.

Sophomore Chloe Callahan scored nine points to go along with three rebounds. Junior Valerie Muhlenkamp had a team-high five rebounds also to go along with eight points.

The Oilers will be back in Croy Gymnasium, Saturday, Jan. 14 as they face the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans.Tipoff is scheduled for 1pm.
