Findlay Breaks 54-Hole Record in Third Place Finish
Carmel, Ind. – Taking on a loaded field, the University of Findlay women's golf team finished the University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational in a tie for third place on Tuesday, Sep. 11 with a team score of 894 in the 54-hole event. That score is a new three-round record for the Oilers, breaking the effort of the Oilers' 2016 National Championship 54-hole score of 899. In the tournament field were 15 teams, eight of which are ranked in the top-25 and three in the top ten. Findlay, which is not ranked, finished higher than teams ranked 10th, 12th, 14th, 15th, and 24th in the country.
Senior Makenzie Torres, who finished second in the field in Par 5 scoring at -4, led Findlay on the course as she fired a 221 (+5), the eighth-best 54-hole individual score in school history. She finished in a tie for 12th in the event.
Senior Samantha Hatter fired a final round 73 (+1) to wrap up the event with a score of 225 (+9) and finished in a tie for 22nd while teammates junior Meredith Wipper and sophomore Kristina Kniesly each shot 75 (+3) to finish with 226 for the event. They tied for 25th in the tournament.
Wrapping up the lineup for Findlay was junior Samantha Kellstrom who shot a 74 (+2) to finish with a 231.
Findlay's next event is the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Fall Invitational on Sep. 17-18 in Columbus, Indiana.
